The Ryder Cup is headed for a Monday finish for the first time in it's history as rain continued to hamper efforts to get the event back on schedule on Sunday.

And Europe will bring a commanding lead into the singles after a huge third session at Celtic Manor in Wales. Europe came into the day down 6-4, but that would all turn around.

The Northern Irish duo of Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy continued their great play, McIlroy, with the birdie on 17 to lift the pair to a 3 & 1 win over Zack Johnson and Hunter Mahan.

In the Fourball match pitting Padraig Harrington and Ross Fisher against Jim Furyk and Dustin Johnson. Fisher closed out the match with a 15-foot birdie on the 17th.

Jeff Overton fired in a contender for shot of the tournament with an eagle at the eighth.

His approach lands just long and then backs up right into the cup for the deuce.

Overton, fired up after that shot as he and Bubba Watson looked to knock off Peter Hanson and Miguel Angel Jimenez..

However, Hanson and Jimenez emerged the victors. Up one heading into 18, Jimenez seals the point for Europe with the great approach. They took a 2-up win.

Young American Ricky Fowler, with a brilliant shot at 11 out of the bunker. He and partner Phil Mickelson though, would fall 2 & 1 to Ian Poulter and Martin Kaymer.

Europe will head into the final day of singles with a commanding 3 point lead. The USA only managing a half point on the day...9.5-6.5 for Europe is the score with only the singles to go.
