Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue is accusing representatives of Japan of violating China's sovereignty and territorial integrity in statements made to reporters at the ASEAN summit meetings.

Hu Zhengyue says delegates from Japan frequently made use of media outlets to make statements and comments that violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China. He says Japan ruined the atmosphere for talks by leaders from both countries on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Vietnam. Hu Zhengyue says the Japanese side should take full responsibility for any consequence from this.

When meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Seiji Maehara, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi laid out China's position on sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands, stressing they had been an integral part of Chinese territory since ancient times.
