A cold wave has caused freezing rain in a large part of Southwest China's Guizhou province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Trees, power lines, and grass have all iced up. Flowers, crops and trees are coated with frozen crystals. But the beauty has its drawbacks in disastrous weather conditions. Transport, power, and telecommunications are all having problems. Slippery roads can lead to traffic accidents. Yang Yan brings us more details.

Numerous roads, highways and bridges have been frozen in Guizhou province.

The Chongzun and Guizun highways are completely blocked, covered with a layer of ice up to a centimeter thick.

Transportation departments and the police are spreading de-icing salt. But reopening the highway still depends on the weather.

He Xiaosong, Police Officer of Zunchi Highway Transport Dept., said, "So far we've applied nearly ten tons of industrial salt in the Zunchi Highway. This should be enough to melt the ice and restore highway service."

Shuttle buses in all the bus stations in Zunyi city have been canceled since Sunday. Stations are refunding full fares, and trying to evacuate stranded passengers.
