With the arrival of the New Year and the three-day national holiday, shopping malls across China are offering discounts and special offers.

This is the hottest shopping season ever.

In Chengu, capital of southwestern Sichuan Province, hundreds of shoppers queued in front of a local store, waiting to start their spending spree.

Shouting happy new year, shoppers poured into the store to pick up goods at substantial discounts.

Ms. Zhou, New Year's shopper, said, "I bought lots of clothes and shoes."

Nr. Chen, New Year's shopper, said, "2010 has come to an end, I came to buy some presents for my family to celebrate the new year."

A similar picture can also be found in shopping malls in Shanghai.

On Saturday, a local gold store offered big discounts. Despite the current cold spell, gold shoppers lined up outside the store long before it opened.

Consumers ran into the store when it opened at 9 am.

One hour later, the 40 kilos of gold were all sold out.

According to a staff member at the shopping mall, the number of customers has increased by 80 percent since the New Year holiday began, making the already hot market even more robust.
