Lebanon's caretaker prime minister says he will seek the post again after militant group Hezbollah toppled his government. His announcement came one week after the militant group Hezbollah toppled his government.

Saad al-Hariri's Western-backed government fell last week over a dispute linked to a UN tribunal investigating the assassination of his father, former prime minister Rafik al-Hariri. Many fear the country's political crisis could descend into street battles.

In a televised address Thursday, al-Hariri said he would continue efforts to solve the crisis diplomatically. The most recent talks, involving Qatar and Turkey, failed to reach a compromise.

Saad Al-Hariri, Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister, said, "We will go to the consultations that his excellency the president will hold on Monday and we will express our opinion and we are going to commit to naming me as candidate for prime minister by the Future Movement bloc."

Hezbollah denies any role in Rafik al-Hariri's killing. It forced the collapse of the government last week when Saad al-Hariri refused to renounce the tribunal and withdraw Lebanon's funding for the court.

Lebanese special police forces have tightened security around the government palace and other official buildings amid growing fears that the country is heading toward violence.

The collapse of the Western-backed government is seen as a blow to the UnitedStates and its Arab allies, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
