President Hu Jintao attends business luncheon

Earlier in the day, Hu Jintao attended a luncheon hosted by US Business Council, the National Committee on US-China Relations and other friendly organizations. President Hu was introduced by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. It was the final event of his state visit in Washington.

Hu Jintao told American business executives that China and the US need to build on their relations. He said it serves the fundamental interests of their two peoples, and is conducive to world peace and development. He proposed a number of steps to achieve this.

The measures include advancing the cooperative partnership, building a new pattern of mutually beneficial economic cooperation, promoting friendly exchanges, treating each other with respect and as equals, and handling major, sensitive issues in a proper manner.
