South Korea's foreign minister, Kim Sung-hwan, has set off for Japan, for a two day visit.

He's expected to arrive in Tokyo on Wednesday afternoon, and go straight to a meeting with Japanese prime minister Naoto Kan. It's Kim's first visit to the country since he was appointed last October.

The two sides are expected to discuss bilateral relations and current diplomatic tensions with the DPRK.

Kim will also meet with senior officials from the Japanese government and the country's ruling Democratic Party.
