The clashes between Gaddafi forces and rebels continue to rage in Libya . Artillery fire can still be heard in many areas.

In the western city of Misrata, rebels say government troops shelled the town on Wednesday and killed one resident. They are calling for tougher NATO action as Gaddafi forces retook most of western Libya. But government officials deny attacking civilians in Misrata.

They say they are still fighting armed gangs linked to al-Qaeda. In the east of the country, a rebel spokesman has confirmed that production at rebel-held oilfields there has stopped, after being attacked by Gaddafi's forces. The government claims a British air strike has hit its major Sarir oilfield in Sirte basin, and damaged a pipeline connecting the deposit to a Mediterranean port.
