Chinese athletes found more success at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Anhui province. They tried to hold their own in the heavy weight categories, and a young Chinese lifter took the spotlight.

A total of 7 athletes took part in the finals of the 94kg class, but 21-year-old Chinese Li Bing was the only one of the group who had not competed in last year's world championships. Li asked for 165kg, but failed in two attempts. Then, he faced the pressure and won. Li conquered the weight on his third try. He claimed the bronze in the snatch event.

Next was the clean and jerk. Li succeeded in his first two attempts for 210 and 213 kilograms. Li pushed up 220 in his third attempt, which was the weight to beat from last year's world championship. And the much-anticipated match ended with another triumph by Li Bing. success. He claimed the gold in the clean and jerk, and clinched one more bronze on aggregate.

In the women's 69kg class, Chinese Macao's Zhang Shaoling won a gold medal sweep in the snatch event,the clean and jerk, and on aggregate.
