As economic cooperation deepens between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, trade has surged.

In 2010, trade stood at more than 145 billion US dollars, up nearly 37 percent from the same period of 2009. Exports from the mainland to Taiwan rose by about 45 percent, while imports from Taiwan increased by 35 percent. In March of this year alone, mainland imports exceeded 4.2 billion dollars, a jump of about 45 percent.

Data from the Taiwan authorities show the island's trade hit a high in the first quarter, with mainland remaining its biggest trading partner. Analysts say its thanks to ECFA's Early Harvest Program.
