Thursday marks the 3rd anniversary of the massive earthquake hit southwest China's Sichuan Province. A memorial service has been held for the quake victims in one of the worst-hit areas, Beichuan.

The service was held in the cemetery park. Hundreds attended the ceremony, including family members of the deceased, residents in the old county and soldiers and rescuers. A moment of silence was called to mourn the dead. Beichuan was one of the closest counties to the quake epicenter.

6,000 of the county's 10,000 population died in the quake. More than half of the county was buried by landslides and it was declared impossible to rebuild. The local government decided to leave the area, as it was and turn it into a memorial park.
