The International Monetary Fund has revealed its final list of candidates for its top job. French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and Mexico's central bank chief Agustin Carstens have been short listed.

Lagarde has served previously as the Minister of Agriculture and Fishing, and Minister of Trade. She was the first woman to become the minister of economic affairs of a G8 economy, and the first female chair of the international law firm Baker and Mckenzie.

She was ranked the best minister of Finance of the Eurozone. Mexico's central banker, Agustin Carstens has previously served as Secretary of Finance and deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund. Ms Lagarde is considered by many as the front runner for the post.

She is backed by the European Union, and has also garnered support from Egypt, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates. Mr Carstens has the support of Latin American countries. The IMF says its executive board will meet with the candidates in Washington DC to discuss their strengths. The selection process is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
