Russian Ambassador to China hopes gas talks will be brought to logical conclusion

06-16-2011 13:46 BJT

Observers expect energy talks to remain a major topic during President Hu's visit to Russia. The Russian Ambassador to China gave us his view of the much discussed China-Russia gas pipeline deal. He says it's not surprising that negotiations on a deal of this scale and complexity have been going on for years.

He said, "In total, we plan to export nearly 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China every year. This is almost the gross of our annual export to the Western nations. Both sides are trying to keep their positions in the talks, because even a single cent gap in the price means a difference of hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars in total profit. We also hope that the 'contract of the century' will be brought to its logical conclusion around the visit."
