Tele interview: Promising sectors for expanding trade between China and Ukraine

For more analysis into Sino-Ukrainian relations, we are now joined by Professor Feng Shaolei from the East China Normal University in Shanghai.

Question 1: President Hu Jintao's visit to Ukraine is expected to boost bilateral ties to a new level. And trade cooperation is no doubt prominent. The two governments have promised to strive to increase two-way trade volume to 10 billion US dollars by 2012. Currently the figure stands at 7.7 billion US dollars in 2010, which is already a sharp 33 percent increase year-on-year. Why the two economies are so complementary? And what are the most promising sectors for further expanding bilateral trade?

Question 2: China and Ukraine have already established their strategic partnership. How significant is the partnership to each country? How can each country balance ties with other the relations with other major powers in the region?
