As ashes from a volcano in Chile's Puyehue-Cordon Caulle chain continue to blanket the Argentine town of Villa La Angostura, emergency workers are checking on residents who have refused to leave the region.

The federal government has sent Argentine troops to join civil defense personnel, national park workers and officials in providing assistance and monitoring developments. Scientists have warned that rising ash levels could trigger flooding, and the situation will only worsen once the winter snow hits. Despite the alert from the government, some people still don't want to leave, and are optimistic.

Teo Carmonelli, resident said "We'll suffer for a few more days, but it must return to normal. With the other volcano - back in 1960 I think - it wasn't as much as this one. In other words, that volcano erupted and then calmed down - but it wasn't even the half of this."
