US House cuts congressional budget

The US House of Representatives has voted to cut the congressional budget by 6.4 percent. This would trim the legislative branch budget by 227 million dollars to 3.3 billion for the next fiscal year.

Appropriators, say legislative-branch agencies need to cut bonuses and other merit pay in light of the fiscal crisis.

A report accompanying the bill, calls on all agencies, to justify bonuses paid out. It also notes, that some bonuses are lifting certain salaries higher, than those earned by members of the Congress.

The bill would also cut several agencies by 6 percent, including the Congressional Budget Office, the Government Accountability Office and the Library of Congress.
