China's meteorological authority has lifted a yellow alert for typhoon Nock-ten, as it has moved out of China for Vietnam.

Nock-Ten which formed Monday in the eastern Philippines, reached landfall along the northeastern coast of Hainan island on Friday.

Southern coastal areas of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan have seen massive downpours as the tropical storm lands in Southern China.

Fishing boats returned to harbor to find shelter, and some fishermen were ordered to leave their boats as the typhoon struck. A total of some 190 thousand people in Hainan have been evacuated so far.

Nock-Ten was recorded as packing winds of up to 28 meters per second when it landed at Longlou Township in the city at 5:40 p.m. Just hours later, CCTV reporters visited Longlou Township and this is what they found.

Despite the absence of rainfall, strong winds continue.

Broken trees on the sidewalk demonstrate the heavy impact of the tropical storm on Longlou township.

But inside the makeshift shelter, life goes on as normal.

Fu Di lives with his nephew.

He says his house is not strong enough to withstand the storm.

So he always comes to this shelter once a storm alert is issued.

Fu Di said, "The typhoon arrived with strong wind and waves of heavy rain. Some local officials came to my home and summoned me here."

Nock-Ten is the eighth storm and the most powerful one to hit China so far this year.

Nock-Ten which formed Monday in the eastern Philippines, reached landfall along the
northeastern coast of Hainan island on Friday.

A total of 75,440 people in Hainan have been evacuated from coastal fish farms, unsafe houses as well as low-lying regions.

According to the State Flood Control and Drought Relief headquarters, the storm left one person injured and damaged 148 housing units along coastal villages in Hainan's Guangcun Town.
