Manchester's great rivals City and United met at Wembley on Sunday, with the FA Community Shield on the line. The Shield match pits the champions of the previous Premier League season, United, and the holders of the FA Cup, City.

City took the lead after 38 minutes through Joleon Lescott. The defender got between Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic to glance a header from a David Silva free-kick past debutant goalkeeper David de Gea.

Worse was to follow for de Gea as Edin Dzeko tried his luck from 30 metres and saw his low shot beat the Spaniard. United pulled a goal back seven minutes into the second half when Chris Smalling volleyed past Joe Hart in the City goal.

Six minutes later the match was level at 2-2 after substitute Tom Cleverley's touch released Nani and the Portugal international blasted the ball past the City keeper. Nani then sealed the victory for United four minutes into stoppage time. United emerged with a 3-2 win and lifted the Community Shield for the 15th time.

Vincent Kompany, Captain of Manchester City, said, "It wasn't the best of results obviously, but don't think we played to our potential anyway today, so you know, we would have liked to win the game but in a way maybe we're the kind of team that reacts well after defeats and after bad results, so it will give us something to think about before the Swansea game and we'll be ready, because, you know, today showed us that you have to be focused, not only on ninety minutes, but all season long. So it was a good game to play right now."
