The Libyan Embassy in Washington has reopened, now under the control of the Transitional National Council.

Libyan-Americans chanted outside, waving both the US flag and the new nation's emblem. Ambassador Ali Aujali gave a short speech. He said "We are born again, and we are confident that Libya is very close to being liberated."

He said the new embassy is committed to serving the Libyan people and for advancing their call for freedom and democracy. Aujali also asked the US government to unfreeze assets that he says belong to the Libyan people.
