Premier Wen Jiabao has called for promoting sustainable and quality development in his keynote speech at the opening of the World Economic Forum annual meeting of "New Champions 2011" in the Northeastern Chinese city of Dalian. Guan Xin reports from the scene.

Premier Wen Jiabao says people in China remain clear-headed and are firm in confidence despite varied views on the country's economic development.

Premier Wen Jiabao said, "With the expansion of China's economy, the difficulty to sustain the high speed of economic growth over a longer period is increasing. However, the changes in external and internal situation have not changed the fundamentals of China's development. We are fully capable, and have conditions and confidence to sustain rapid and stable economic growth and achieve a new level of economic development."

Wen says the theme of the forum represents people's shared desire for robust, sustainable and balanced economic growth. He notes the world economic uncertainties and instabilities are rising, adding to the difficulties of economic recovery.

Premier Wen Jiabao said, "The international community should strengthen confidence, enhance cooperation and deal with challenges together. We should step up communication and coordination of macro-economic policies, and beef up construction of a just, reasonable, healthy, and stable, new world economic order."

Premier Wen is calling on major developed economies to take responsibility, and properly deal with debt issue, secure the stable operation of the global investment market, and protect investor confidence.
