South Korean President Lee Myung Bak has arrived in Russia for talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

The discussions are set to take place in St. Petersburg and are expected to focus on nuclear issues, and a proposed gas pipeline via the DPRK. The long-standing idea to transport Russian natural gas to South Korea through the DPRK returned to the headlines after DPRK leader Kim Jong-il’s visit to Russia in August.

The DPRK says it's willing to lease a piece of land for the pipelines, in a deal that could bring in over 100-million US dollars annually. Before the summit with Medvedev, Lee is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the second annual South Korea-Russia Dialogue.

This is Lee’s third visit to Russia since taking office in 2008, the most of any South Korean President. After finishing his Russian trip later on Wednesday, Lee will travel on to Cannes, France, to attend the annual G20 Summit.
