10th SCO prime ministerial meeting to open

The tenth Heads of Government meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is set to kick off Monday in the Russian city of St. Petersburg. This year marks the tenth anniversary since the establishment of the group.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in St. Petersburg for the meeting on Sunday. The upcoming session is aimed at highlighting the importance of coordination in resolving economic problems and developing trade and diplomatic ties among member states and along with other observer states and regional partners.

SCO countries will also hold discussions on regional infrastructure, connectivity, and energy projects. The SCO, founded in Shanghai in June 2001, groups China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Over the past decade, the organization has focused on enhancing cooperation in economy, security and culture.
