China has launched a Nigerian Communications Satellite -1R (hereinafter referred to as NigComSat-1R) on a Long March 3B launch vehicle from the Xichang Launch Center. The satellite is the fourth in-orbit delivery contract signed by China Space and international customers.

Just over half an hour after midnight, Beijing time, early Tuesday, China successfully launched its third commercial satellite of the year.

China has launched a Nigerian Communications Satellite -1R on a Long March 3B
launch vehicle from the Xichang Launch Center.

NigComSat-1R, covering Central, Western and Southern Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, and some areas of Mid-Asia, will be mainly used for communications, broadcasting, tele-education, broad-band multimedia and navigation services.

It is expected to improve the Nigeria’s national infrastructure and benefit people with its coverage.

Yin Liming, president of China Great Wall Industry Corp., said, “The successful launch of NigComSat-1R demonstrates the technical stability of Long-March series launch vehicles and the Dong Fang Hong 4 satellite bus. It shows that China can provide more advanced and stable and reliable satellite launch services for international customers. "

Nigeria is China Space’s first customer for the in-orbit delivery business. NigComSat-1R replaces NigComSat-1, which failed in-orbit in 2008. China Space promised to build a replacement satellite for Nigeria, at no extra cost.

China has now carried out 18 satellite launches this year. Half of them have been carried out at Xichang.

Sun Baowei, party secretary of Xichang Satellite Launch Center, said, “China’s aerospace industry has entered a rapid development period. For the coming year, there will be eight satellite launches here to send 10 satellites into space. This brings us more challenges and opportunities. We believe we can fulfill the task through our continuous efforts and excellent teamwork. "

With more Chinese-made satellites going international, China’s reputation is growing around the world.

This year, China Space successfully launched PakSat-1R, W3C and NigComSat-1R satellites.

China has signed contracts with Bolivia, Belarus and Venezuela, giving it a breakthrough in remote sensing satellite exports, as well as serving European countries with communications satellites for the first time. It is expected that China will carry out 4 or 5 commercial launches for its international customers next year.
