United Nations offices around the world have lowered their flags to half-mast to mark the memorial service for DPRK leader Kim Jong-il.

In New York, the flag outside the UN headquarters was lowered. A UN spokesman says the gesture was normal for the memorial service of any head of state and that is simply a matter of protocol. DPRK is a full member of the 193-nation organization.
