China has published a white paper on its aerospace activities, illustrating the development of the country’s space industry over the past five years and its future plan for the next five years.

This paper, issued by the State Council, notes that a key principle underlying the development of its space industry is that it is "a strategic way to enhance its economic, scientific, technological, and national defence strength, as well as a cohesive force for the unity of the Chinese people."

China carries out its space activities in accordance with the following principles.

-Scientific Development - Following the principle of long-term, stable and sustainable development

-Independent Development - Upholding the principle of independence, self-reliance and self-renovation

-Peaceful Development - Upholding peaceful purposes of outer space exploration and utilization, and to benefit the whole of mankind

-Innovative Development - Selecting a limited number of targets and making breakthroughs in key areas according to the national situation and strength

-Open-up Development - Actively developing space areas of international exchange and cooperation, and being dedicated to advancing the progress of human space industry

Since 2006, the "Long March" rocket series has completed 67 launch missions and has sent 79 spacecraft into orbit, showing its reliability.

On September 25, 2008, China sent three men to space in one ship, and two of the astronauts exited the Shenzhou 7 capsule briefly on September 27 for China’s first-ever spacewalk.

Then in November 2011, China granted a batch of patents on the docking technology used in space modules Tiangong-1 and Shenzhou-8. The move consolidated China’s intellectual property rights over the technology, as they become the third country in the world to master orbital space docking.

China’s long-term development targets for the next five years will focus on.

-Building up an earth observation, broadcasting and telecommunications, navigation and positioning satellite system

-Establishing China’s own manned spaceflight system and carrying out manned spaceflight scientific research and technological experiments

-Obtaining a more important place in the world in the field of space science

-Upgrading the overall level and capacity of China’s launch vehicles

-Establishing a coordinated and complete national satellite remote-sensing application system

-Developing space science and explore outer space by strengthening studies of space micro-gravity, space material science, space life science, space environment and space astronomy

China’s participation in international space cooperation started in the mid-1970s. Over the last two decades or so, China has joined bilateral, regional, multilateral and international space cooperation in different forms, such as a commercial launching service, which have yielded extensive achievements.
