Main targets for China's economic dev't in 2012

Premier Wen Jiabao has just presented a report on the work of the government on behalf of the State Council.

In the report, he outlined the main targets for 2012’s economic development. Those include to increase the GDP by 7.5%, create more than 9 million new jobs in towns and cities, keep the registered urban unemployment rate at or below 4.6%, hold the rate of inflation or CPI to around 4%, increase the volume of total exports and imports by around 10%, and continue to improve the international balance of payments.

This year, China is projecting a deficit of 800 billion yuan. That’s a decrease to around 1.5% of GDP, and it consists of 550 billion yuan in central government deficit and 250 billion yuan in bonds issued on behalf of local governments.
