The Chinese workers injured in a blast at an arms depot in the Republic of Congo last week are coming home. A chartered plane arranged by the Chinese government took off on Friday night from the capital Brazzaville, taking the 31 workers home for treatment.

A convoy of more than twenty cars carrying the injured workers left Brazzaville Central Hospital and Beijing Construction Group’s residence for the airport. The medical teams earlier assessed the workers’ injuries to ensure they can endure the long-distance flight.

Yu Dongning, leader of Chinese medical team, said, "We prepared a lot of medication. There are some special medical equipment on this chartered plan, including an ICU unit. We are well prepared with various transport measures. We opened a green channel, and as far as I know a team in Beijing is also fully prepared to help. They have arranged for the reception and sorting out treatment."

Due to the serious condition some of the workers are in, the medical team must take extra care during the preparations. The whole process lasted nearly 5 hours. The sky had already turned dark, but the teams are still busy at work.

The plane is expected to land in Beijing on Saturday evening. The 16-hour flight includes a one and a half hours’ stop over in Abu Dhabi. The Vice Foreign Minister of Congo, Chinese Ambassador Li Shuli, and a senior Beijing government official, along with a Chinese medical team were at the airport to see the workers off.
