The UN Security Council agreed on a presidential statement on Thursday calling on Syrian government to fulfil a ceasefire deadline set by UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan. Residents in Damascus say the ceasefire must be simultaneous.

A resident of Damascus said, "The most important is the state interest. Both parities, the opposition and authority, should ceasefire simultaneously. There's nothing wrong for government to safeguard a whole country's security. We surely look forward to the ceasefire, a full ceasefire from all parties. Political solution is the proper way for everyone.

A resident said, "To let government withdraw troops, I think, firstly the opposition should hand over weapons to the government."
