2012 World Health Day: Good health adds years to life

World Health Day takes place on 7th April every year under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization. The theme for this year is "Aging and continuing good health".

The World Health Organization estimates the proportion of the world's population over the age of 60 will double from about 11% to 22% between 2000 and 2050.

Within the next 5 years, for the first time in human history, the number of adults aged 65 and over will outnumber children under the age of 5.

China is also seeing a rapidly aging population. According to the statistics from China's Ministry of Health, the number of people aged 60 years or over is more than 180 million, 13.3% of the China's total population in 2011.

And the number is expected to increase by 5-8 million every year.
