China-US trade disputes are on the rise as the US economy struggles to recover. The US International Trade Commission says it will impose anti-dumping and countervailing duties on China’s high-pressure steel cylinders. An investigation into China’s wind tower imports to US is also underway.

The latest US trade protection move against China .

The US International Trade Commission says China’s high-pressure steel cylinders are subsidized and sold in the US at less than market value.

That clears the way for the US to levy anti-dumping and countervailing duties against the imports, ranging from 6.8 percent to 31 percent. The countervailing duties will be around 16 percent of the price of the imports.

In addition, the Commerce Department has also announced a preliminary investigation into wind tower imports from China, which signal possible punitive duties, subject to a final decision in September.

America’s moves come at a time when trade protectionism is on the rise amid a sluggish economic recovery. China has repeatedly urged the US to abide by its commitment against protectionism and help maintain a free, open and just trading environment.
