US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta arrives in India for 3-day visit

US Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, has arrived in New Delhi to begin his 3-day visit to India. Panetta is expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and hold talks with his Indian counterpart.

During his visit to Vietnam, he met with the country's National Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh. The two defense chiefs acknowledged that their deepened relations will contribute to strengthening peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

Panetta is the first US Defense Secretary to visit there since the end of the Vietnam War. Panetta left Washington last Wednesday, kicking off his nine-day Asia-Pacific tour, including Hawaii, Singapore, Vietnam and India.
