The 12th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit has opened in Beijing, with the business forum topping the agenda of Wednesday's meeting. Senior leaders and business representatives of all member states are attending.

In the past decade, the SCO has established a platform for cooperation, which has led to a rapid increase in trade volume among members. China's annual trade with the rest of the SCO has grown from 12 billion dollars in 2001 to around 90 billion in 2011. The Beijing summit is expected to set the tone for the development of the bloc over the next decade.
