Six Syrian opposition parties have founded a new opposition group called the Coalition of Forces for Peaceful Change.

In the new opposition group’s founding statement, the coalition said it would support any initiative that could lead to a peaceful political solution of the Syria conflict. On Tuesday, United Nations peacekeeping chief, Herve Ladsous, said the 15-month-old conflict in Syria had grown into a full-scale civil war.

He went on to say that Damascus is now attempting to recapture large swathes of urban territory it has lost to the armed opposition. But Syria’s Foreign Ministry said this was an unrealistic description of the conflict.
