It's not just scientific experiments and data collection. The Shenzhou-9 crew on board the Tiangong-1 space lab are also keeping fit in space.

This is the Chinese 3 astronauts' third day in the lab, and they’re getting stuck into their exercise regime. Liu Yang peddled away on a specially designed bike with no handles, with the help of Jing Haipeng.

In order to keep the astronauts' muscle functions well oiled, scientists have developed a series of exercise equipments and facilities for them to stay healthy.

Chen Shanguang, general director of Astronaut System Department, says, "We've taken numerous measures in terms of medical protection. We've also arranged many experiments, especially space-based medical experiments. The first type centers on studying physical features. When in space, certain changes will take place in, for example, the functioning of the brain and cognition. The second type focuses on health related experiments, for example, sleep, metabolism, and so forth."
