Chinese Premier Wen urges to work jointly on promoting sustainable development

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has addressed the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio De Janerio.

He urged the international community to work jointly on promoting sustainable development, while pledging China's readiness to live up to its responsibilities as a major developing nation.

China has attached great importance to the Rio+20 summit. And it's been calling for political will and wisdom to achieve progress on sustainable development.

The Rio +20 summit hopes to review the progress made over the past 20 years and take swift action in the face of the global financial crisis. It also seeks to reiterate political commitments and address new problems and challenges to sustainable development.

More than 190 nations have attended the summit. They are expected to reach a series of political agreements on improving living standards and protecting the environment.

Following the summit, Wen Jiabao will also pay official visits to Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile.
