China's Olympic hurdling hero Liu Xiang was in the field, looking for one final warm-up run ahead of the London Games. However, a strained back forced Liu to withdraw from the final and he has to be hoping this isn't history repeating itself.

Liu came into the London meet leading the Diamond League standings in fine form. The race should have been a good test for Liu as he would line up against top Olympic contendors Aries Merritt and Jason Richardson of the U.S. However, after the heats Liu felt his back tighten up and pulled out of the final.

The good news for the Chinese is that there appears to be no major injury concerns, with his coach Sun Haiping saying the move was made to simply be cautious. The Athens Olympic champion has finally returned to full health after an achilles injury that sidelined him for the Beijing finals...and took years to recover from. Liu will have to hope his back is back to normal in time for the start of the Olympics.

American Aries Merritt, had no injury concerns on the day and ran very well, storming to victory in the final in 12.93 seconds, equalling the American’s own world-leading time this year. Fellow Americans Jason Richardson and Ryan Wilson completed the London Diamond League podium.
