The Olympic Torch has arrived in London in spectacular style, lowered from a helicopter above the historic Tower of London.

A member of the UK Royal Marines carried the torch, abseiling down into the Tower on the shore of the River Thames. The grand entrance brings the symbol of the games into the city’s historic heart, after a two month journey around the UK.

Crowds lined London’s famed river banks to see the arrival, as the famous "Beefeaters" watched from inside the Tower.

It marks the 7 day countdown to the opening of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The city last hosted the Games in 1948.
