Dramatic cellphone video shows trapped couple rescued in Beijing

Dramatic cellphone video has emerged of a couple who were trapped during Saturday’s deadly downfall in Beijing. The city’s southern Fangshan District was the hardest hit. Villagers captured the dramatic escape.

Within just a few minutes, the village was turned into an ocean. Torrents flooded homes and vehicles.

Hoping to save their belongs, a couple are washed away.

An Jinhong, floods survivor said, "My husband and I had to hold tightly to the pavilion pillars. We were trapped there for 5 hours."

They held each others’ hand to seek comfort. But the torrent was so severe, they felt desperate.

Fortunately, a van was trapped in front of the pavilion. It diverted the floods and helped protect them.

Hearing the news the couple were trapped, several village officials immediately organized a rescue team.

Liu Yongmao, village official, said, "The torrents were extremely big. I had to drive a forklift to rescue them."

Due to good organization, the couple were taken to safety. No-one was injured.
