Chinese weightlifting team gets hero's welcome at Beijing airport

The Chinese weightlifting team have won five gold medals and two silvers at the London Olympic Games. They received a hero’s welcome as they arrived at the Beijing airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Returning with glory. Hundreds of fans and reporters greeted the heroes, some carrying bouquets and red banners.

Many fans were from the hometowns of the champions, travelling long distances just to greet the winners.

A fan from Henan province says, "China is strong in weightlifting and our team has performed well in competitions. They did not disappoint us and we feel very happy."

The crowd burst into excited screams as Zhou Lulu showed up.

Zhou won gold medal and set a new world record of 333kg in women’s over 75kg event on Sunday.

Zhou Lulu, London 2012 gold medalist, says, "I feel good. After all, I got a gold medal. I am happy to have their support. But I will have a rest first."

Lu Xiaojun bettered his own world records in snatch and total lift to win the men’s 77kg class in London.

Lu Xiaojun, London 2012 gold medalist, says, "I will start to prepare for the next Olympics in 2016. We have such a great training platform and I will make good use of it to win another gold medal for China and for the Chinese weightlifting team in 2016."

The head coach of China’s men’s weightlifting team, Chen Wenbin, says all athletes did their best in competitions but they did not perform well in some events. For them, the post-London era will be a new start.
