The visitors pushed for an equalizer in what was left of the first half. Mariano Izco almost put the game on level terms but his header went wide.

Against a string of chances from Catania, the hosts weren't prepared to simply defend and were looking to double their tally. Andrea Ranocchia almost achieve it with a powerful header but it wasn't to be.

Inter eventually confirmed the three points five minutes from time. Diego Milito finds Rodrigo Palacio. The Inter striker chests the ball before volleying past the keeper. It was 2-0. Palacio opened his account after struggling early in the season. Inter cruised to a 2-0 victory at home, keeping the pressure on league leaders Juventus.
