Video: Diaoyu Island patrols

11-01-2012 13:45 BJT

China has reiterated that recent patrols conducted by marine surveillance vessels in waters near the Diaoyu Islands are part of normal activity. Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks on Wednesday at a regular press briefing.

"The marine surveillance fleet is conducting regular patrols and law enforcement in waters around the Diaoyu Islands, which is China’s territory. This is well-grounded."

Hong’s remarks referred to the expelling of several Japanese vessels that were found illegally sailing around the islands Tuesday morning. The State Oceanic Administration says four China Marine Surveillance ships encountered the Japanese vessels at around 10am while on routine patrol.

They conducted surveillance over the Japanese vessels and took photos as evidence. The fleet also radioed the Japanese vessels, reiterating China’s sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands and the waters around them.
