Video: Violence continues across Syria

11-01-2012 13:47 BJT

Syrian activists say warplanes have pounded opposition strongholds around Damascus and in the north, as President Bashar al-Assad’s forces intensified air strikes against rebel targets.

Amateur video uploaded online purported to show MiG fighter jets above the eastern suburbs of Damascus, as well as big explosions around the city. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said government jets carried out five strikes in the eastern Ghouta district, a rebel stronghold on the outskirts of the capital.

Meanwhile, state-run SANA news agency said a mortar shell hit a residential block in a Damascus’ suburb. The pro-government Sham FM Radio said a car bomb ripped through the Damascus suburb of Mu’adamiah on Wednesday evening but gave no further details.
