Video: 7th plenum of 17th CPC Central Committee concludes

The 7th plenary session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China concluded in Beijing on Sunday. The four-day session is the last plenum of the 17th CPC central Committee, and paved the way for the upcoming 18th National Congress of the CPC.

This was the last Plenum of the 17th CPC Central Committee. Over three hundred Central Committee members and alternate members attended the four-day plenum. The meeting was presided over by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, entrusted by the Politburo of the CPC Central committee made a work report.

The session also discussed and passed two documents, the report from the 17th CPC Central Committee to the 18th National Party Congress, and a draft Amendment to the CPC Constitution. Politburo Standing Committee member Xi Jingping, elaborated on the two documents.

Both documents will be examined during the 18th National Party Congress.

The session reviewed the Political Bureau’s work in the past five years. It underlined the progress made in areas including sustaining stable and rapid development of the economy, advancing reform and opening-up, as well as improving people’s living standards.

The session appointed Fan Changlong and Xu Qiliang Vice Chairmen of the Central Military Commission of the CPC. It also appointed alternative member Wang Xuejun and Wang Jianping as CPC central committee members.

The committee also approved the investigation report on Bo Xilai and Liu Zhijun, finding that the two men seriously violated the discipline of the Chinese Communist Party. It endorsed the decision to expell Bo Xilai and Liu Zhijun from the party.

The Plenum confirmed the 18th CPC National Congress will open on Thursday, November 8th.
