2012 Beijing Marathon: News of "Japanese not allowed" not true

The Chinese Athletic Association has officially negated the news that the 2012 Beijing International Marathon will not admit Japanese runners. Vice chairman of the track and field authority said the annual race will continue to welcome runners from all around the world.

Japanese media including Asahi Shimbun reported lately, that in the application page of this year’s Beijing International Marathon, there was no option of Japan as to nationality. Interviewed by a local media, Shen Chunde, vice-chairman of the Chinese Athletic Association, explained that most of Japanese runners had preferred group registration, together with Japanese enterprises.

Therefore, organizers did not provide an additional channel of individual application. Shen stressed that individual application has now been opened to Japanese applicants.
