Exclusive interview: Algerian ambassador on China-Algeria, China-Africa relations

The African Group of Ambassadors in Beijing is set to hold events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Organization of African Union in Beijing from the 24th to the 25th of May. The group is hosting an academic seminar on Friday at the Kempinski Hotel. The theme of Friday’s seminar is Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance. It aims to reflect the achievements and challenges of the African Union and African continent. China-Africa ties are also set to top the agenda.

Earlier, CCTV reporter Su Yuting spoke with Algerian Ambassador to China, Hassane Rabehi. The ambassador discussed China’s role in Algeria and Africa's development.

Q1: Trade between China and Algeria has seen tremendous growth over the past decade. What’s driving Algeria’s interest in economic cooperation with China?

Q2: This growing trade between China and Algeria does not find favor with many. Some have accused China of being a ’plunderer’ rather than a partner. What’s your perspective on that?

Q3: Are there other fields in which Algeria is expecting to boost cooperation with China?
