China and the US have held a dialogue on human rights in Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The Chinese delegation is headed by a Foreign Ministry official and the US delegation is led by a State Department official.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the two sides conducted discussions on the protection of human rights and national concerns and international cooperation in human rights.

The Chinese side stressed that China’s human rights situation is at its best period in history and China is a country ruled by law. It says people’s livelihood has been continuously improved, and civil and political rights have been largely developed. It also urged the US side to respect China’s judicial sovereignty and stop bothering China on isolated cases.

The Chinese side raised the issues of racial discrimination, lack of protection of indigenous rights, the use of torture against terrorism, and other issues within the US.
