Bo sentenced to life in jail, all personal assets seized

Jinan Intermediate People's Court has sentenced Bo Xilai, former Chinese political chief of Chongqing Municipality to life in prison after convicting him on charges of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power.

After almost a month since his trial, Jinan Intermediate People’s Court has passed judgment.

Life imprisonment, confiscation of all personal assets, and deprivation of political rights for life.

The French villa bought with corrupt money is also confiscated.

The court hearing began at ten this morning, by first going through the key points of the case.

The judge presented verified facts of the case, and rejected Bo and his lawyers’ defenses.

The court convicted Bo of taking bribes of 20.4 million yuan, embezzling 5 million yuan and abuse of power.

The verdict says Bo has damaged the interests of the nation and its people.

It says Bo Xilai can appeal to the Supreme People’s Court of Shandong, if he does not accept the verdict and sentence.
