With the countdown to China's New Year of the Horse underway, preparations for CCTV's Spring Festival Gala are in full swing.

The gala is directed by film director Feng Xiaogang, who’s promised to introduce more new faces and fresh elements to the most watched TV gala in the world. It will feature 42 programs, of which 23 are singing and dancing shows, and five are sketch comedies and cross-talk shows. French actress Sophie Marceau, martial arts star Jackie Chan, prominent pianist Lang Lang and popular South Korean actor Lee Min-ho will lead dozens of stars from China and abroad.

The gala will be broadcast on China’s flagship CCTV-1, and other satellite channels, as well as the internet. CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala has accompanied Chinese New Year for 30 years since its debut in 1983. Last year, the gala recorded 750 million viewers in China alone, making it one of the premiere television events in the country.
