Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki says he wants to ask western countries to consider a uranium swap.

Manouchehr Mottaki was speaking during a brief stopover in Turkey on the way back from New York where he attended the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference.

He told a news conference in Istanbul a uranium swap would be a positive move.

Manouchehr Mottaki, Iran's Foreign Minister, said, "We see a uranium swap as a chance, as an opportunity. Some of the parties are already showing the political will to use this opportunity. Everybody should try to find a proper way. We hope that other parties, such as the United States will take a constructive approach for a breakthrough over our swap proposal. We believe that a solution is possible from this point of view."
