Chinese Premier meets with Arab leaders

Premier Wen Jiabao has held talks with visiting Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign affairs Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jabir Al-Thani, and Saudi Arabian foreign minister Saud Al-Faisal at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Premier Wen said the the fourth ministerial meeting of China-Arab forum, which will be held in TianJin, will be a great opportunity to push China-Arab relations ahead.

When talking with Sheikh Hamad, Wen hailed the development of bilateral ties on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits over the past decades. He noted that breakthroughs had been made in energy cooperation between China and Qatar, which also brought along collaboration in relevant industries.

Wen said that China will cooperate with Qatar to fight the global financial crisis in energy, finance, infrastructure, and construction areas. Sheikh Hamad said Qatar gave top priority to ties with China.

He said Qatar would promote mutually beneficial cooperation with China in energy, aviation and investment. After the meeting, the two leaders attended a signing ceremony of a bilateral cooperation agreement concerning energy and investment.

During the meeting with Saudi Arabian foreign minister Saud al-Faisal, Premier Wen said that China always considers the importance of Sino-Saudi Arab relations. Saudi Arab is the largest economic partner of China in the region. Saud Al-Faisal said he agreed with Premier Wen. Saudi Arabia is willing to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields.
